Brief Summary

The Lenca Indians live in the high mountains in western Honduras. There are about 100,000 Lenca today, who are the poorest people group and least educated in the country. They still maintain many of their traditions, although they have lost their language. During the Spanish Conquest the Lenca mounted a 12 year defense, ending in the death of Lempira, their leader and now national hero for which Honduran currency is named.

National Ministry

Erick Sanchez has been working with the Lenca in western Honduras since 2003.  The Catholic church has a very strong influence, and is considered part of the culture.  The priests control the Lenca with an iron fist and lie to them about the Evangelicals (such as Evangelical baptism can give them AIDS).  Lenca leaders have threatened pastors and other believers who have tried to take the truth of the gospel there by taking away their municipal rights to water, etc., but the Lord has been faithful, and the ministry is growing.
