While studying under Missions Door’s Honduras Extension Bible Institute (HEBI), Humberto became involved in church planting and teaching. He and his students were responsible for raising up sixteen new churches in Northern Honduras.

In 1981 Humberto became regional director for HEBI and was appointed by the Mission. In 1984 Humberto was named the first National Director of HEBI. Humberto’s work with HEBI involves more than just passing on knowledge to students. HEBI’s goal is to teach students to apply their knowledge by evangelizing their communities and planting churches. Lay pastors are taught to train others, who are then encouraged to begin new churches and continue the process. Through this chain-reaction method, more than 180 churches have been planted in Northern Honduras, using minimal outside funds.

In addition to directing HEBI’s ministry, Humberto serves as Director of the Association of CB Churches in Northern Honduras. In 1998 his goal to establish a church-planting-by-extension program in Nicaragua was realized.

FAITH
Humberto was born in Honduras and accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 13. At 18 he was serving as the copastor of a Baptist church in La Ceiba. Three years later God called him to minister with the CB churches on the Island of Roatan. Carmen was saved as a young adult.

FAMILY
Humberto and Carmen were married in 1975, and have 6 children, Dunia, Edil, Esau, Edwin, José Elias and Norman.
