The Western Honduras Extension Bible Institute (HEBI-West) was developed in 1996 to serve Conservative Baptist pastors through pastoral preparation and training in church planting by extension. HEBI-West also provides quality pastoral materials to new chains of churches being established in Honduras.
Ambrosio’s background with HEBI and his strong administrative skills have prepared him well to accept the directorship of HEBI-West from its founder, a North American Missions Door missionary. Enabling indigenous leadership has been a primary objective of Missions Door.
FAITH
Just before the turn of the 18th century, Garifuna slaves en mass escaped the islands of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. Many settled in communities along the northern Honduran coast like San Antonio de Colon, a village of 20 thatched-roof houses, where Ambrosio Cordova was born in 1965.
His father, who taught him to work and study hard, was a farmer and cattleman. In this setting Ambrosio and Norma were raised. Ambrosio came to know the Lord through a street preacher’s message in 1983, after which he grew in the Word during a men’s internship. Norma came to the Lord through the witness of the Mennonites in 1989.
FAMILY
Ambrosio and Norma married in 1990 and now have five children: Norma, Josue, Angel, Carmen and Yakelin. They are all proud of their Garifuna heritage.
